Drive Lume from scripts and agents
Drive Lume from scripts through its local HTTP API, or from an AI client through its MCP server.
Drive Lume from scripts through its local HTTP API, or from an AI client through its MCP server.
Both interfaces control the same VM store as the CLI. Use the API for scripts and services, MCP for AI clients.
The installer runs lume serve at login on port 7777 (install with
--no-background-service to manage it yourself):
lume serve # localhost:7777
lume serve --port 7778curl http://localhost:7777/lume/vmsIt listens on localhost only. Keep it there unless you have a network
boundary and an authentication plan. Endpoints:
HTTP API reference.
lume serve --mcp speaks MCP over stdio, so the client starts it. Use the path
from which lume:
{
"mcpServers": {
"lume": {
"command": "/Users/your-name/.local/bin/lume",
"args": ["serve", "--mcp"]
}
}
}Restart the client. It can list, create, run, stop, clone and resize VMs and run SSH commands in unattended guests (MCP tools). Test the server with:
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector lume serve --mcpThe MCP server can create, delete and SSH into VMs. Configure it only for clients you trust, and give agents a dedicated VM.
